Idea 1

You can’t fix a banana or an egg.

  • Give each kid or group of kids a banana or an egg.  

  • Ask them to call the banana or the egg a bad name and break them at the same time.   

  • Then give them a chance to fix it.  They can use tape, stapler, glue or anything they want to fix it the best they can.  

  • Let each of the kids show their fixed product.  

  • Have a talk with the kids about being careful with the words we speak.  If we speak mean words, it’s kind of like breaking a banana or an egg.  Then it is really hard to fix it.  Once we have said words we can’t take them back.  If we are careful and gentle with our words then we will hurt less people.

Read John 8:1-11

  • What did the law say about someone caught in sin?

  • What did Jesus do when everyone came over with the woman?

  • Ask who spoke harsh words and who spoke gentle words?

  • How were the Pharisees harsh?

  • How was Jesus gentle?

  • Who do you want to be like and why?

  • Jesus invited them to make the right choice rather than pointing out everything they did wrong.  

Idea 3

Show and tell.

  • Go and get something in your house that you need to be extremely gentle with.

  • Show and tell about your object to everyone.

Idea 4

Egg on a spoon race.

  • Give each of the kids an egg and a spoon.

  • Ask them to walk from one side of the room to the other with the egg resting on the spoon.  

Idea 5

Make the right choice discussion.

  • Ask the kids to tell stories about someone who has hurt them.  

  • Talk with each other and think of ways that you can be gentle to that person, but invite them to do the right thing.

  • hitting your brother or sister back after they have hit you.

  • Catching the ants you find in your house and putting them outside.

  • Saying I’m sorry after you step on someones foot.

  • Yelling at your brother or sister after they broke your iPad.

  • Breaking your friends lego creation because they won’t play with you.

  • Tell your mom to make dinner.

  • Ask your dad if you can help him make dinner.

  • Telling your dad his cooking is terrible.
