Idea 1
Play choose the king.
Ask eight kids to come up to the front to represent Jesse’s sons.
Give each of them a piece of paper explaining who they are and their qualities.
Let each son present themselves.
Then let the kids vote on who they would like to be the new king.
Idea 2
Read “David is Chosen” in the Spark Bible on page 126.
Questions:
What special qualities did God see in David that made Him choose him to be king?
How did David feel when he was anointed by Samuel?
Why do you think God wanted a shepherd to be king?
What lessons can we learn from David's story about being chosen for a special purpose?
Idea 3
Colouring page about the story.
Cut out the 4 pieces to the story and give each kid all four pieces, an extra piece of paper and some glue.
Talk about what is happening in each of the panels and help the kids glue the story in order on their page.
Then let them colour it in.
While they are colouring go around the room asking the kids different questions about what is happening and help them understand.
