Jesus Gets Baptized - Matthew 3:11-17
Idea 1
Scavenger Hunt
Divide the kids into groups and give them a copy of the story.
Let them read through the story. Ask one of the older kids to read it to the younger ones.
Then let the kids go one a scavenger hunt. The need to find something, or take a picture of something that represents all the word in blue.
Idea 2
Act out Jesus being baptized.
Before the lesson, make paper cut outs of a person and laminate them or use wooden people.
Give a cut out person (or wooden person) to each kid and some white out markers, let them colour in their people so that they look like Jesus.
Bring in a bowl of water and let the kids dip their “Jesus’” into the water, like he is being baptized.
When they bring their person out of the water, shine a flashlight on cut out and ask another kid to say “this is my son and I love him.”
Then give the kids some paper towel and they can clean off their Jesus.
Idea 3
Have a discussion with the kids about baptism. Ask them questions like
Have you ever seen someone get baptized?
Have you been baptized?
Why do you think people get baptized?
Idea 4
Have a discussion about ways to show you love Jesus.
Ask kids if they can think of ways we can show others that we love Jesus.
Ask kids one at a time to pick a piece of paper and act out what is written on it.
Let the other kids guess what they are acting out.
Idea 5
