Teaching Ideas

Idea 1

Read “Jesus’ First Miracle” on page 314 of The Beginner’s Bible.

Questions:

  1. What did they run out of at the wedding?

  2. What did Mary tell the servants to do?

  3. What did Jesus do?

  4. What is a miracle?

Idea 2

Make your own drinks.

  • Put out a number of cups, water and drinks for kids to mix. Lay out a number of powdered drink mixes that the kids can use.

  • Tell them that they are trying to find the perfect drink to serve at a party.

  • Give them 5 minutes and see what they come up with and if they can actually drink what they have made.

Idea 3

Read “The Wedding Saver” on page 592 in The Action Bible.

Questions:

  1. What do you think Jesus means when He says “This isn’t my time yet”?

  2. What do you think the servants were thinking when they were filling the jars with water?

  3. What is a miracle?

  4. Why did people put their faith in Jesus?

Idea 4

Make a party banner - announcing the best party you can imagine.

  • Roll out some banner paper and give the kids some markers.

  • Let them use their imaginations, and tell them money is no limit. They get to invent the world’s best party.

  • Before they start colouring and drawing what it would look like spend some time talking about their ideas, what would they do, what would they serve?

  • Once the banner is finished, put it up for everyone to see. Now ask them how they would feel if they invited all their friends to this party and then all of a sudden some of the things that they said they would do like (name a few things on the banner) couldn’t happen any more. What if they promised all these amazing things and then some of them couldn’t happen any more? How would they feel?

Idea 5

Talk about miracles with the kids.

  • Tell them about a miracle that happened in your life.

  • Let them talk and share stories as well.

  • What do they think of today’s story of Jesus turning water into wine?
