Teaching Ideas
Idea 1
Go on a money hunt.
Hide a bunch of coins around the place where you are teaching. Count your coins before you hide them and let the kids know how many coins they need to find.
Somewhere around the room put a fish out (make it hard to find or hard to reach) and hide one of the coins in its mouth - it should be the last coin found.
Once you find the coin in the fish’s mouth, talk about how today’s story has a fish with a coin in it’s mouth as well.
Idea 2
Read “Money in a Fish” on page 375 in The Beginner’s Bible.
Questions:
What did Jesus and Peter need to pay?
What did Peter find in the fish’s mouth when he went fishing?
What did Peter do with the money he found?
Idea 3
Play Go Fish!
Play a game of go-fish with the kids.
Each time one of the kids gets a match, ask them to give an example of something that God provides for us.
Idea 4
Talk about how many ways God provides for us.
Get out a big piece of paper or a long piece of mural paper and write “God Provides” as the title.
Have a conversation with the kids. Try to get them to think of as many things as possible that God provides for them.
Ask the kids to write down or draw all the things you talked about and more.
Hang up your mural once is it done.
